Please help us help our environment - by recycling and reusing your newspapers (no Flyers please).

The Early Development Instrument

posted Jan 31, 2018, 8:06 AM by Sean Marks

Parents and guardians know that young children can be at different stages of readiness as they begin school.  In order to better understand readiness-to-learn as an outcome of early childhood development, the Ministry of Education is implementing the Early Development Instrument (EDI) project in all publicly funded elementary schools with Kindergarten programs during the 2017-18 school year.

The EDI measures children’s readiness to learn at school and is completed by your child’s teacher.  This teacher completed questionnaire was developed at McMaster University’s Offord Centre for Child Studies.  It is a population measure.  The results are reported at a group level only.  Individual student results are not available.  Kindergarten teachers will complete an EDI for each of their Year 2 (Senior) Kindergarten students during February and March 2018.

As parents and guardians of Year 2 (Senior) 2018 Kindergarten children, you are invited to complete the Kindergarten Parent Survey (KPS) in March 2018.  The KPS is a collaborative initiative of Halton’s Our Kids Network, of which the HDSB is a partner.  The KPS is a voluntary, confidential and online survey that focuses on child health, and well-being and learning experiences.  Please watch for more information about the KPS in the weeks to come.

The information gathered through the EDI and KPS will be used to help inform and support child development initiatives in Halton to ensure that all children thrive.  For more information about the EDI and/or KPS, contact your school principal.

Changes to Special Lunch Days

posted Jan 24, 2018, 1:54 PM by Sean Marks

In an ongoing effort to streamline the lunch program at school, we have decided to use Lunchbox Orders for our lunch program going forward.  This program offers a unique website for our school that allows you to go on and place and pay for your orders through their website.  There are a number of advantages to this program:

 1.       It allows greater flexibility in ordering as you can order weekly, monthly or for the year

 2.       All payments are processed through their website so no money or orders are sent back to the school

 3.       You can cancel a lunch up until the Sunday before

 4.       It allows us to offer special lunch days throughout the month as an extra option for lunches

 5.       The school continues to receive a fundraising portion of each lunch ordered

We will continue to use Toppers, Pita Pit and La Vita on a rotating basis on Fridays but each month we will also offer 1 Swiss Chalet lunch and 1 Booster Juice day on Tuesday.

A more detailed letter from Lunchbox Orders will be sent home shortly with details and instructions on how to order the lunches.

Boomerang Lunches

posted Jan 24, 2018, 1:05 PM by Sean Marks

Boomerang lunches will be starting on Monday, January 29th and we are planning on going until June 30th!  All lunch-produced garbage will be returned in your child's lunch except banana peels or apple cores.  It's a great time to start using re-usable water bottles and containers.  This will all be part of our school goal to become a Platinum Eco-School - the highest level we can achieve. We believe this to be an important goal for all schools but particularly here at Glen Williams given our location and history concerning conservation and the environment. We hope we can rely on your support in achieving this goal, beginning with our boomerang lunches.

Not all our parents are on our School Cash system. This service makes ordering and paying for school related much easier and ensures accuracy of payment. If you're not on but would like to learn how, please go to http://kevgroup.com/?page_id=3265/ for a quick video on how use the system. More information is also found under the Parents Tab in our website.
